A wireless sensor network designates a wireless network composed of numerous sensor nodes spatially distributed over an area in order to collect information. The sensor nodes communicate wirelessly with each other in order to self-organize into a multi-hop network, collaborate in the sensing activity and forward the acquired information towards a collector node called base station or sink. Due to the collaborative characteristic of such networks, sensor nodes may self-organize into groups to cooperatively monitor environmental conditions or perform tasks. In some critical applications (such as military, healthcare, etc.), information exchanged between group members (sensor nodes) needs to be secured. Therefore, a Secure Group Communication (SGC) scheme must be applied to protect the communication inside the group from potential attacks (such as eavesdropping, injecting, modifying messages, etc.). Moreover, the secure group communication scheme must address the group membership operations (new sensor nodes may join the group, and current sensor nodes can leave the group) to avoid potential attacks such as impersonation, denial-of-service, unauthorized access, etc.

This includes hardware (sensor node consists of a microcontroller PIC 18F series, external flash memory, and transceiver unit.) Sensor node has been run under Assembly Language. The sensor is cooperated into a wearable body sensor network which is small in size and easy to use. It allows a non invasive, real time method to provide information regarding the health of the body. Either a personal computer or LCD display is used to test the device.This research enables a more efficient and economical means for managing the healthcare of the population.

Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) is a part of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) which works with medical devices and capable to transmit medical data in run time. It has changed the healthcare industry and proved itself as the best technique in case of emergencies and remote area location. However, WBAN has witnessed several security issues which demand a secure data transmission and user authentication in resource constrained environment. Healthcare devices have resource constraints such as energy constraints, space constraints, etc. Implementing high level security is a daunting task due to those constraints. This technique implements Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) for secure key distribution and data exchange. ECC provides same level of security by using lesser key size than RSA. Moreover, this scheme has mutual authentication of sink node by base station server and of base station server by sink node. It uses hash value of sink ID, registered random number and time-stamp value for two-way authentication. Furthermore, our technique uses time-stamp value to identify replay attack. Overall, it proves a better security mechanism in case of WSNs for healthcare devices.

Big data analytics (BDA) is important to reduce healthcare costs. However, in many hospital systems, new technologies that influence patient data require extensive technical and rigorous usability testing before implementation into production. Therefore, to implement, an existing High Performance Computing (HPC) Linux node clusters were utilized externally, and simulation of patient data benchmarked and cross-referenced with current metadata profiles in operational hospital systems at the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA), Victoria, Canada. Over the tested platform, the data were generated, indexed and stored over a Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) to noSQL database (HBase) that represented three billion patient records. Hadoop/MapReduce framework formed the BDA platform with HBase (NoSQL database) using hospital-specific metadata and file ingestion. Queries showed high performance with a variety of Apache tools in Hadoop's ecosystem. BDA platform of HBase distributed by Hadoop successfully under high performance at large volumes and the entire data archive. Importance on representation of health informatics using technologies for big data in healthcare is discussed.
