Impact of Antibiotic Cycling on Antibiotic Resi...

Antibiotics resistance is one of the biggest challenges facing global public health. In the past sixty years, many classes of antibiotics have been developed, but duration of benefit appeared to be limited: resistance has emerged to every antibiotic class. Antibiotic resistance seriously hampers treatment of infections and leads to increased length of stay, morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs, both in hospital and community settings. In the era of increasing bacterial resistance and in the absence of new effective antibacterial drugs, it is necessary to use the currently available agents optimally and appropriately. The inexorable increases in antibiotic resistant rates have led to calls for reduction in the levels of inappropriate antibiotic prescribing, and to improve treatments protocols to maximize the life span of these drugs. While the expected outcomes is clear, the process by which is to be achieved is not. Of the interventions designed to reduce antibiotic resistant rates in hospitals, one that is currently attracting considerable interest,is antibiotic cycling. This is research evaluated the impact of antibiotic cycling in antibiotic resistance and utilization

The Prompt Dependency Cycle

Intimate relationships encounter significant difficulties when one partner has Asperger's Syndrome (AS) and many of these relationships become dysfunctional. Despite the swelling momentum of worldwide research on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), research continues to have tunnel vision, focusing mainly on children. This limited attention has meant that adults with AS and their partners have largely been ignored by the public, healthcare providers, researchers, academics, and policy makers. Largely, the result for these couples is a lack of community understanding, ineffective clinical interventions, and feeling "invisible" and "disbelieved." This book illustrates the use of Grounded Theory to explore prompt dependency and resulting impacts on interactions within Asperger-Neurotypical relationships. The refined theory and related theoretical model that emerged through Grounded Theory's coding processes illustrates the need for reciprocal interaction (NT partner) and the need to avoid reciprocal interaction (AS partner) were the common threads that kept prompt dependency cycling between partners. This study provides relevant implications for all stakeholders regarding AS-NT couples.

Pharmacotherapy of Bipolar Disorders
161,00 CHF *

Numerous advances have been made in the pharmacotherapy of bipolar disorders in the last 5 to 10 years, to such an extent that it has become difficult for the physician to choose the most appropriate treatment according to the different parameters that must be considered. This is why it seemed necessary to us to try and give a synthetic overview of the growing amount of data to be able to respond to such questions as: Which mood stabilizer to choose and when should it be introduced ? Which therapeutic approach for a depressive episode, a manic episode or a rapid-cycling bipolar disorder? Rather than presenting treatment algorithms, the authors present a synopsis of the literature and knowledge based on daily clinical practice. At the end of each chapter, the important concepts and recommendations are summarized as key points to remember. The original French edition (published in 2004) was awarded a prize in Specialized Medicine at the 3rd International Festival of Medical Books, France. For this English edition, the text has been thoroughly revised and more than 500 new references have been added, reflecting the rapidly growing literature in the field. This book will appeal to all psychiatrists, interns and residents in psychiatry, psychologists and mental health nurses. It will also be of interest to general practitioners and any other clinicians or healthcare professionals involved in the management of patients with bipolar disorder.
